About
After going through our honeymoon stage as a couple, my husband and I suddenly realized that we had no couple friends to hang out with. So many of our people are white identified, confused about racism, or engage in subtle suicide (self destructive activities such as drugs, alcohol abuse, unprotected sex, etc.). We became frustrated with connecting with people then realizing very quickly that our morals, principals, and African-centered lifestyle did not align with theirs. Even more frustrating was finding individuals who claimed to be African-centered and discovering down the line that they had trifling tendencies and their dashikis, ankh chains, and Dr. Amos Wilson quotes were just a facade.
After numerous disappointments, I turned to the internet. I looked for Black wife blogs, Black mother blogs (since we're expecting), and just plain old Black woman blogs for inspiration and support. I found nothing. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of blogs written by Black women but...they tended to be Christain-centered or focused too much on materialism or external/white validation. I just don't believe that being an amazing or inspiring Black woman, mother or wife has to involve expensive high heels, laid edges, or manicured nails.
This is how Seeking Sovereignty came about. I wanted to create the type of space that I would enjoy visiting. Where African-centered women could connect, share experiences, and be encouraging to one another without judgment or racist interference.
If you are an African woman seeking sovereignty, so am I. I love you. Let's nationbuild together!
